Friday 14th July 2017 …..Fête Nationale at the Castle Inn Chepstow

We celebrated the 14th July in Chepstow  at the Castle Inn with a french menu created by Stephane which was excellent. We all enjoyed ourselves, the staff was efficient with a good sense of humour. We sung the Marseillaise  with the correct french words…… It was really nice to welcome new members at this celebration. A wonderful evening among 37 friends….what more does one needs ?????..

Here are some photos from the evening:

1067 – 2017 A CELEBRATION OF THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF THE CASTLE, PRIORY, TOWN AND (maybe) THE OLDEST TWINNING ASSOCIATION IN THE WORLD!!!!!!

One of Europe’s oldest town links – started 1067 and twinned in 1975. Others include: Rome/Paris (45BC and 1956); Le Mans/Paderborn (836; 1967); St Valery/Battle (1066;1966)

It all started with the invitations:

To mark this special link , we organised on Friday 7th July LE GRAND PIQUE-NIQUE in the heart of Chepstow Castle.

VIP present were The Lord Lieutenant of Gwent, The High Sheriff of Gwent, Dale Rooke Mayor of Chepstow, Pascal Cauche Mayor of Cormeilles, Nathalie Lebreton Presidente of the Cormeilles Twinning Association accompanied by Régine Legay treasurer of the Cormeilles Twinning Association and Moi….and of course all the volunteers and members who gave their time to insure the safety of all our guests.

The most important guests were the 250 children from local schools (The Dell, St.Mary’s RC, Pembroke, Thornwell, Shirenewton, Tutshill CofE Primary Schools along with St.John’s on the Hill, Offa’s Mead Academy and Chepstow School).
They ate their picnic during the falconry display, then there were  re-enactments from knights, interactif circus and old fashion stocks to the delight of the children a  perfect way to cool down. They all enjoyed themselves tremendously.

A very big THANK YOU to our sponsors who wish to remain anonymous.
Let the photos speak for themselves:
