Cormeilles August 2011

Another successful visit from start to finish. The weather for the journey was perfect and the Channel was just like a millpond. There was the usual reception at the Hôtel de Ville on the Friday, where acquaintances and friendships were renewed, speeches exchanged and glasses raised. On the Saturday morning we had an interesting visit to the Graindorge cheese factory and museum, finishing by tasting four cheeses produced there and a glass of cider. We were then taken to a superb lunch at the Château Vendeuvre, which was followed by a tour of the château with its collection of over 800 miniatures, and the delightful water gardens. Sunday brought us a tour and tasting at the Busnel Calvados Distillery in Cormeilles. In the evening there was an impressive buffet dinner followed by karaoke. After a tentative start, inhibitions (and a pair of trousers) were shed and most people eventually participated, in one way or another! Needless to say, a good time was had by all. Monday was free with our hosts until the evening, when the Epaignes choir “La Farandole” sang for us at the local church, followed by the final event, “le pot d’amitié”.  Tuesday morning saw us in the square for the usual photos and au revoirs prior to departure. We stopped en route  at Houlgate, where Hugh dived into 3 inches of water; others took a dip in a more dignified fashion. The rest of us simply enjoyed the sun and ambience of the resort before continuing the journey home.
